Local Scholarships

The Makefield Branch of AAUW has a long tradition of awarding academic scholarships to young women in our community. The awards support the AAUW commitment to equity for girls and women and lifelong learning. In 2011 the Branch will fund two types of awards.

Graduating High School Seniors
Scholarships of $500 will be awarded to young women who will graduate high school in 2011 and plan to attend a four-year college or university. Students must be attending Council Rock North, Council Rock South, Morrisville, Neshaminy, or Pennsbury High School.

Nominations for the 2011 scholarships will be accepted from the participating high school guidance departments. Guidance staff will have information regarding eligibility criteria and application deadlines in February 2011. Interested students from participating high shcools can consult their guidance departments in February 2011.

Nominees will be notified of committee decisions in late April and successful candidates will receive their awards at the Branch's Girls' Recognition Reception on the evening of Monday, May 9, 2011.

Rheta Pinsky Scholarship
This scholarship is funded by donations in honor of Rheta Pinsky, a long-term member of the Makefield Area Branch of AAUW. In the spring of 2010 this scholarship was awarded to a mature, returning student entering her second year at Bucks County Community College (BCCC). Interested students should speak to the BCCC Financial Aid Office in the Spring of 2011 for further information regarding eligibility, application materials, and deadlines for the 2011 Pinsky Scholarship.
